I would be interested in this answer because i have a 4-1 manifold and couldnt get the heat shield back on. The only pipe that comes within 1 inch (about 1 inch away) is the coolant pipe to/from the cabin heater matrix.
My theory is that if you have a stainless system and/or just removed your precat, then the manifold would not get excessively hot. I think i read somewhere the coolant hoses can withstand temperatures upto about 300 deg.c. (dont quote me on this).
