fitted bottom end on my car started it up and everything was fine, then the head got a bit tappety and the idle kept jumping up and down every now and then and a short while after it started missing on revs and was smoking quite a bit, what oil is recomended for a tappety head on these engines? any help would be good, thanks. :crazy:

What is the oil pressure? Any EML? What colour smoke?

its fine now, put some fuel in this morning and runs fine, still a bit tappety and eghaust needs a new u bolt, blowing after cat. Any idaes for oil tho that might calm the tappet sound down, thanks fran.

This is only my personal opinion but I would say that a heavier weight oil is masking a problem, these engines run fine on 5-30 - if you have noise, something is not working optimally.

I would do a Fortran flush or similar and see if it clears up 🙂

will do that, its got 10-40 oil in at moment, newt fancy, i am going to flush it and put some good stuff in, fingers crossed.
