Clutch...how much power?

Anyone any ideas on what power the standard clutch can take?

if i knew the torque rating i would have put it, seeing as i only knew the bhp i put that, if you know it could be a helpful answer.

I have also been informed that the standard clutch is rated to 250bhp. I agree that the torque value would be of more use and realistic.

For an example, you may have a rotary (Wankel) engine that produces a high amount of power but in fact the torque output is rather disappointing.

Mazda RX8:

Engine Size 1.3 liters / 80 cu. in.
Horsepower 238 @ 8500 rpm
Torque (lb-ft) 159 @ 5500 rpm

Another factor to take into account is to how that torque is delivered. The torque through a NA is progressive. The torque through SC or Turbo is aggressive.

is rated @230lbs torque
I imagine the clutch will support that (with a safety margin)

holy grail on 4 valve, 4 stroke, normally aspirated petrol engines is 94lbs per litre
so 94x2.2=206.8

So I predict that the standard clutch will cope with the max power achievable from N/A

I should have a spec from LuK technical dept tomorrow on how much torque that they claim their clutches can withstand. I spoke to a friend of mine tonight that works closely with Luk and Sachs amongst others.

IT would because of excessive TORQUE

power is torque

bhp is only a calculation

power is torque

max torque on standard clutch for f23 is greater than can be acheived on 2.2 N/A

but

For S/C or turbo applications greater than 210lbs then up-rated clutch and/or gearbox should be considered
