air con

stripped my engine down today and noticed that i have a air con pump on my engine but no belt going round it, when disconnected the pipes no fluid come out, any ideas, is my car air con? and how does it work? notsure.gif

Refrigerant and lubrication must have leaked at some time, there should be approx 900g of refrigerant and oil in the pipes. If you have a air con compressor and get the belt to drive it then thats one part of the puzzle. You should be able to clearly see the aircon piping around the engine bay 🙂

thats what blags me, all air con pipes are there, but when i disconected the pipes from the pump and rad nothing come out, how strange notsure.gif

Not that strange - refrigerant has around a millisecond lifespan in air, any leaks and it will go quickly with just a bit of snot left as lubrication oil (added with refrigerant)

Get it back together and get an aircon specialist to nitrogen pressure test the system, if it holds - vacuum and refill. Worth testing the compressor also, lots of people omit due to compressor failure

Have to ask what do you want the aircon working again for. Fuel consumption drops substantially when on around 20%, not on it still has to be driven by the crank absorbing power and a tad of economy.
Never ever used mine in 8 years bracket broke twice (£150 a throw at stealers and original reused) a pipe cracked so nothing in.
Just need to remove compressor and fit VX220 belt, crank oil seal while at it, job done good riddens.
