ECU Fault code

Hi to all. After a rebuild due to timing chain failure the MIL light has beeen on ever since. Fault code is p0602 which occurs everytime i start the car after clearing codes.
Am i able to flash/reset the ecu using op-com or is this tech 2 only or maybe new ECU? any help gratefully recieved.

Hi mate

That error is a code for control module programming error - have you tried to do any ECU flashing or uploading via OP-COM?

Also check the connections to ECU for bent pins and continuity. Tech2 will be able to reprogramme if the ECU on the programming side is not fecked mate

hi sophos9, No haven't tried flahing ECU with op-com how can i do this/ can it be done? Many thanks

I do not think that you can flash the programme side with the op-com, was just asking if you had attempted anything with it.

Did you change your ECU when rebuilding?
Were there any noticeable electrical shorts when doing the work?

In my lamens brain, either ECU has dropped its programming due to being buggered/another fault or there is interrupted communication somehow however I cannot think how this could logically be the case

Check all the ECU connections - its free and easily checkable then weigh up cost of tech2 reprogramme vs. secondhand ECU?

got in the car this morning started up and all lights were out, then 200 yards down the road the emmisions MIL light came on. checked codes and got p1336 (present) and p0602 (not present) am thinking this new code could still be pointing to faulty ECU but think its strange that my original code (p0602) has dissapeared. Has my ECU gone completely mad? has anyone had this strange behaviour?

No ECU change, battery removed from the car during all work carried out.

Have diconected battery, checked ECU pins and plug terminals all seem ok.
May be able to send ECU away to get checked and flashed but need the car at the mo so abit difficult.

Strange man, as its not present at the minute, let it go - are you ok with P1336?

was thinking that p1336 could still be pointing to ECU? or should i be checking crank sensor?

P1336 indicates a short to the voltage of the crankshaft sensor circuit. (more specific - "The control unit recognises the malfunction of the circuit via an internal evaluation logic")

Electrical test before internal logic - Ignition off, disconnect ECU plug, ignition on, measure terminal 1 and ground from the ECU X70 (see pinout) you should get <0.3v

Never seen this error code before and don't be sorry for asking 🙂
