i think its got something to do with the eratic idle they create, this is why ive drilled a hole in mine.
if you think about it the idle should operate with the butterfly plate fully shut.
as i had it i had to use the throttle stop to open it slightly to get it to run and while warming up i would occasionaly end up running round the car like john virgo with a spanner, to adjust the idle and it always stuttered on acceleration if below 1400 revs.
also it wouldnt always return to a steady idle after acceleration.
with the plate open a crack the 2 crescent gaps to let air in that would appear had such a large opening area it was spinning megasquirt out
so in my conclusion idle air flow (if you have no iac.) should be a known constant.
e.g. drill a small hole untill you only just splutter to life when warm, then upsize this hole untill you get an even idle and it stops spluttering.
then adjust to your desired cold revs (i would go 0.2mm at a time if you have the drills)
i know its a pain in the arse to keep whipping the tb on and off but it does work.
and you are quite right the throttle response is quite alarming!! i only wanted to move it the over day for a quick test drive and did shit myself a little! omg.gif
