SRI 150 Cylinder Head HELP!!!!

2 weeks ago an independent garage serviced my Vectra b SRI 150 (2001 Y Reg). During the service the cylinder head cracked just above the 4th spark plug seating. The garage tried to explain that there was probably a defect in the casting of the head but reading some topics here it seem 100% likely that they over tightened the plug.

My question is if a head from a 1998 petrol 2.2 will fit as I have a friend with one available. The ’98 head has a drive belt for the cams, whereas the SRI has the timing chain. Can the cams/cam drive wheels be swapped over to enable fitting to the SRI?

Unfortunately the garage seems to have caused this problem and they seem to want to rip me off for a repair.

get an independent inspection then pay £30 to file for small claims court

you dont need a solicitor

then go find a 2nd hand head and some one to fit to for you

i would not back down over this m8 if your 100% sure the garage did it

As I expected regarding the head. Shame.
The same garage has serviced the car for the last couple of years, no one else has touched it and I have had no history of loosing coolent.
They have offered to replace head FOC on the labour and oil if I supply a second hand head and pay for the fitting kit. They will also not charge for the service.
Looks like I am still in for a cool £600 though otherwise the car is scrap value.

Do you think this is a good offer or should I stick to my guns?

you shouldnt have to pay for anything

however it never works like that cos you want least amount of hassle / stress

secondhand head £350 (take your chances)
re-con head £550

so £400-600 should cover it dunno..

Sounds like they over tightened it - does not take much. The vectra I bought had the same done to it, a previous owner had done the same 🙁

If they have offered free labour then they have admitted some level of liability - I would be plenty pissed off. PM ATOM X, he does fully reconditioned heads for £545 and is one of the good guys
