Help! Sprocket wont slide over crank woodruf key.....

Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of changing the timing and balance chains but I'm trying to remove the small sprocket on the crank which I assumed would just slide off the end of the crank but it just gets stuck. I've checked my haynes manual to make sure and it confirms what I thought.

Am I missing something here? Surely it should just slide off, but it seems to jam on the woodruf key no matter what I do.

Any suggestions welcome! I'm at a standstill now!

Shud just slide off....can u not lever it slightly...

I've been as firm as I dare with a crowbar but it just won't come off. It slides half way and that's it, I'm wondering if it's possible to fit the woodruf key the wrong way round or something?

I'm clutching at straws now!

Hmmm....had an instance with one where the woodruff key had distorted slightly,and the gear wud not slide off..., however a bit of gentle pursauaion(spelling) with 2 levers it came off....

Well I've packed for the night now but I'll get 2 levers on it when I start again. Fingers crossed!

Had the same when doing the missus Vectra C cam and balancer chains on the weekend. It took a lot of effort but pulled it off in the end, did not use any tools - to worried about slipping. Had to keep pushing the keyway down and pulling it forward millimetre by millimetre

It will come, be patient - lack of patience results in mistakes, any mistakes down there will be costly :lol:
