2.5sri vec b any good?

My mrs has decided she wants a 2.5 sri vec b, anything major i should know about with em?

the 2.5's problems are mainly coilpacks failing, headgaskets, oil coolers leaking...apart from that same faults as any other vec b m8.....

so not too bad then? and nothing we cant cope with? i was trying to get her in the 2.2 but she didnt want his and hers matching cars!!

i sold my 2.2 for a 2.5

2.2 has superior handling and cornering to that of a 2.5 purely due to engine weight

2.5 has similar weights to that of a diesel whilst 2.2 is like a 1.8

few hundred miliseconds difference 0-60 in favour of v6

less economical and suffer with sensor problems such as knock sensor

ooh ill be lucky to get her in the 2.2 (as i would prefer as its a known entity!)
if i can get a gsi for her i will.
i wanted her to get an z20let astra but the his and hers thing came up again!
and a least i wont have to borrow her clio anymore!

I've yet to see a genuine head gasket failure on the X25XE or X30XE, seen many many badly diagnosed reports of people changing head gaskets...

The X25XE is a good engine and can easily handle high miles, flywheels weigh a tonne which makes lazy driving but good torque. Front wishbones wear out fast, oil cooler needs to be replaced with a stainless steel one, oil cooler plates/thermostat/coolant bridge leaks, oil leak from oil coolant pipework unions.

Don't let this put you off - nice things mate 😉

straight line speed they is quick for a vectra

they just handle like a dog

weve been talking tax and running costs and i think shes gonna climb down to a 140 or 150 now, as weve seen a nice 140 locally :thumbup:

i have a 2.2 sri and had a v6 sri before that to be honest the v6 is much faster people told me the 2.2s where not that much slower but they are and the fuel costs aint much different its all about the 3rd gear on the v6s 100mph in 3rd and mine didnt miss a beat the gsis have a extra 20bhp and do go well i will be selling my sri 150 soon to get another one.

after much thought we decided to go for an sri 140,
and on wednesday to my suprise my mrs had gone and bought one we had gone and looked at that i had said we werent interested in a week before, and as a result she managed to blag her down £300 and got it for a snip at £1100!!!
with my car having been stood for so long i cant help but feel a little jealous!
seems plenty of room in the engine bay..... some might say too much..... :think: 😃

81k mint inside and out except 3 or 4 stone chips on one of the doors and the pads need doing soon! all in all lovely little car!
