checking for bent valves

hi everyone, this is a quick one for those that have the knowledge of bent valves, is there anyway of telling if any valves are bent with out having it pressure tested, my engine was knocking from bottom end so i gave it a few revs and it mad a bang and packed up, wont turn over at all now, jammed up in bottom end, timing chain still intact not broke, im replacing bottom end and just wanted to be sure of the valves, any help appreciated, thanks.

take the rocker cover off and see if the valve springs are fully lifted if any bent valves then the bent ones will not come all the way back up to the fully closed position also get a compression tester about £25 and check the compression.hth

with the head off it's quite easy to see if they are bent, usually just the exhaust go

I had a head the other week where a couple of inlet valves were bent to, I suspect the conrod or big end bearings went on the engine it came off as all four valves were bent on one cylinder.

I found out when trying to lap the valves in, instead of spinning they just dug in and wouldn't turn, to the eye they looked fine, but a close inspection showed they were very slightly bent :thumbdown:
