PC Ram & Graphics Card

I've got an old PC for free from work, and it's only got 512mb of

Crucial recommends:
"Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot."

which is £25 each including VAT.

Anyone know where I could get this cheaper?

Also, I can't use my old graphics card, as it was AGP, and the new one doesn't have this, so would presume it's PCI?

go get some crucial ballistix pc2 6400 - about 30 a stick

4-4-4-12 cas ratings

as for your graphics card then try not get 2 cheap card as it will bottleneck
keep away from the newer ati cards unless u got a decent 450+ w psu [ no cheap shite]

model number of mobo would be great 😛

OK, bare in mind this is only a cheap desktop, not something for gaming on, just browsing the web and running CCTV (and a webserver when it's in Linux)

typical dell computer built to not last and not upgrade

and that is a 32 bit pci slot

buy yourself a cheap 775 mobo and build it up

I would use it for what is is, not cost effective to upgrade anything need to change the lot.

Shame got two 1Gb sticks of PC8500 XMS Dominator as matched pair i cant be bothered to send back to US (£270 pair 40 months ago shopping around.) Stick to good brand name memory ie Crucial, Geil, Corsair. Every one i have knocked up i have built with unbranded or cheapish ram and has failed, that includes Kingston and PC Worlds own brand.
If hell bent on doing anything with it have the older PCI Express Radeon think its an X600 or 900? with remote control etc knocking around some where you can have.
Even so will need another PSU.

Well I'm just going to be using it for a webserver now. I can't get the version of XP I have to activate, as it's a student version I got from work, which has been activated more than the allowed amount of times.

also i might have a cheap socket 775 board with sata and pci-e for about £15

Well, I've been able to find a Matrox G450 PCI graphics card in the test lab at work which I'm going to use

RAM has turned up.....well, half of it has! Only received 1 x 512mb stick. Will see what the seller comes back with.

Fitted the new RAM stick last night, and it just beeps when in the mother board.

The new one is 512MB 1Rx8 PC2-3200U DDR2 400MHz 240 PIN. NON ECC

This is what the spec says for the Mother board:

DIMM slots (SF Chassis only has two); Non-ECC dual channel shared2 DDR SDRAM system memory (333Mhz or 400Mhz) up to 4GB on the SD and SMT chassis

Anyone know why this won't work?

the mobo on this is very temperamental concerning specific ram

That's what I was thinking. Think I'm going to stick with the 512mb is has already. Runs the CCTV sweet as a nut though.
