Irmscher Back Box Flange

Hopefully somone out there can help.

I've got an Astra '02 2.2 and the original exhaust has finally given up the ghost.

I knew the middle section wasn't great but had a surprise when I also found the flange on the Irmscher box had disintegrated. Other than this the box is in good condition.

I need the car running so I've bought a a standard rear box and centre pipe and fitted myself. While the car runs fine with it , it looks cr*p.

I'm assuming a new flange can be welded on (the actual pipework looks to be fine).

Has anyone has this done ? I'd rather not take to Kwik Fit etc to ask them can they sort out, I'd rather get the flange and get a mate to weld on.

I can then fleabay the standard back box.

(Foolishly I never measured the standard flange on the new rear box before putting on :roll: )

Can anyone tell me if these parts are available (off hand) or am I going to need to remove box again and take measurements off other flange

Easyist thing to do is to go to kwikfit (or somewhere like that) with your gasket and find a good flange in their scrap bin which suits said gasket. 😃

Go to a custom exhaust place and get a new flange welded on, looking at around 1hrs work + Flange & fitting £70 ish. Exhausts Uk did mine when it failed a while back. Sure any powerflow place will do the same.

Had exactly the same problem with mine about 6months back. Took it to a mate who welded a new flange on and replaced the rear silencer with a straight bit of pipe to give it a bit of grrrrrrr 😃

Shouldn't cost much at all for the flange if you know someone who can weld

I've contacted local exhaust centre. They can cut flange off centre section and put a sleeve over to old box. Sounds like the irmschers aren't the old stainless steel that have this problem.

Also now looks as if the standard exhaust I've bought isn't actually for the car. I've just rang Timax/Klarius and they say they don't do a exhaust for Astra 2.2 only 2.0 so god knows how my local spares shop sold it as 2.2. (I know it fits but an 1.4 exhaust fits as well !!)

Does anyone know if this will make a real difference or likely to cause problems ?
