Huskyman Hi Everybody! I'm going to be fitting a lightened flywheel and taking the balancer shafts out.... Can you take the engine out through the top and leave the box in-place ala VX220 or do I have to drop the whole lot out from underneath? Please tel me it's possible, I had to drop my veccy engine out and it was a real ballache of a job... Thanks for any help...
vocky the timing chain cover/oil pump and bottom pulley have to be removed first, then the engine can be removed with the gearbox in place I have used that method on an astra and it worked fine
si_c1978 if you havent done it already easiest way on an astra is to disconnect everything hubs etc, support the engine with a hoist with a strong trolley underneath and drag it out engine gearbox subframe driveshafts and all, and drag it out thro the front makes shoving it back in easier too
Huskyman Ive done it this way with a veccy, but my garage is seriously height limited! I want to pull the mill on the drive and then wheel the crane into the garage to work on it. I'm going to get rid of the balancer shafts and fit a light weight flywheel (when funds allow) 😃
si_c1978 we kind of cheated to get it out and once we lowered the engine onto the floor we lifted the car's front end to drag it out we managed with no probs on the front drive
