Chain Lasted 19K Miles. Tensioner Part No Needed.

Hi all - No surprise to tell you that my cam chain has lasted just 19K miles which IMO is daylight robbery, not snapped yet but very very loose... However, I am chainging it at the weekend and have been reading up about the tensioners for the timing & balance chain... I will be buying the standard z22se timing chain kit from Vauxhalls...

Tensioners :-
I understand there are the standard z22se oil ones, and the more reliable sping loaded ones from the *20** engine... Opinions please ?? are they more reliable..??

Has anyone any idea how much these spring loaded tensioners are ?? or part numbers ?? Is it worth changing the balance chain tensioner as well to the spring type one (I am not chainging the balance chain unless it is really f**ked....

As it's only been 19K miles since the last overhaul of this lot, I don't want to have to do it again in another 20K, and I strongly suspect the tensioners are at fault here...Got the chain rattle suddenly at all engine temperatures. Ususally the rattle starts off from cold and slowly gets worse but this one just started rattling loud suddenly and does it all the time....

Bl**dy heap of junk 2.2 CDX :-(

Any advice greatfully received.....

Blimey that's bad news. Should be lasting loads longer than that. Was the full fit changed last time and were the oil ways blown out? I've always fitted the genuine Vauxhall kits but know there are different tensioner types and i'm sure there is a better spring type like they fit on the Saab. But, i'm not really up on the differences or part numbers. Sure you'll get loads of response from here though. the standard tensioner is £46 from Vauxhall.

it could be the balancer chain as 19k from a new chain is way to low notsure.gif

the z20net uses a better tensioner, similar price to the z22se tensioner :thumbup:

Def the timing chain as I took the rocker cover off the other day and it's very loose... Also the top guide has broke... I guessing it's either tensioner broke, or chain stretched, or I have a serious oil problem somewhere... The chain before this one lasted 28k miles... I think that vauxhall design these problems into cars so to make money.... :-D Not gonna bother doing that balance chain unless it really needs it...
