Cleaning alloys.

I've got my old alloys up in the garden giving them a clean for good old eBay.
I'm using my pressure washer and wonder wheels for stubborn brake dust and tar spots etc but the inners are mega mucky as I've never cleaned anything other than the face of the alloy when fitted.
Hopefully it's not bad enough to put people off them but obviously for the best price I want them as clean as possible, can I use anything a bit harsh like a Brillo pad lightly to take the worse off????

I brillo pad used lightly will probably still mark the wheels, but they are on the inside, so it won't be that noticeable.

EDIT: Didn't see you've already used Wonder Wheels, as that is a pretty strong acidic wheel cleaner.

Speak with Neil, he said he'd got some REALLY strong stuff in his garage?

White Spirit on the insides of the wheels and for the tar spots. I never use Wonder Wheels personally.

The White Spirit is a smelly version of Auto Glym Tar Remover. After the spirit, wash with soapy water and rinse. Coat with some sort of wax after drying. Job done.

BTW, White Spirit is readily available from all DIY shops.

Was after same thing today, carb cleaner, aluminium cleaner (diluted hydrochloric acid or drain cleaner) didnt help much.
Just reminded me i have some diluted hydrochloric acid to 20% may work may not as its on the paint not aluminium.

A little bit Matt, had some thinners I scrubbed in with a brush, got a majority of it off cheers.

Just remember to give them a good coat of protection after, and it should be OK.

Lol, was White spirit, all the same to me!!!! But yes I gave them a good wash down after.
