vectra c facelift 2.2 direct sri clicking

hi i have a 2006 facelift vectra c 2.2 direct sri with 35,000 miles on the clock,im getting a really loud clicking type sound from the timing chain side of the engine when the engines cold,it totally goes away when the engine warms up,i had a mechanic listen to it and he said it sounds like the chain or tensioners,he said get a second opinion as he wouldnt like to strip it down and find its not that,its in an independent vauxhall specialist now waiting to be looked at ,he said he has never known this problem on a vectra c facelift,he thinks it will need new chains tensioners and an oil pump,he said it could be a valve,its waiting to go on a ramp so he can listen from underneath the car.the battery and alternator have been checked and they are both fine the clicking sound sounds like a relay going on and off but very loud
also the car battery goes flat if i leave it 2 days without driving it any advice please?

it could well be the timing chain, it's starting to become a problem on the vectra C 🙁

oil pump should be fine, it's usually just the cam timing chain, but it might be the water pump/balancer shafts chain dunno..

ps: I have a facelift vec C cdti and have had two alternators fail, so that is also a possibility :thumbdown:

got it back this afternoon,full new chain kit put on it,mechanic said the chains were slack,possibly through lack of oil to timing chain,cost £255+vat for chain kit +4 hours labour total cost £492.54 inc vat.

The directs tend to be failing due to a failed tensioner. For some reason its becoming common all of a sudden. The directs seemed to be holding up but over the last few months there have been many tensioner failure threads on Vectra-c . Glad you got it sorted mate and saved the engine. :thumbup:

Cost... they would rather deal with the exceptions. Glad you sorted it 🙂

They should know by now but no recall. There's a recall/rework though for the fuel reg and handbrake so i'd get that looked at. The big problem is the HP pump, to such an extent its had a feature on BBC watchdog but they still refuse to say there's a problem.
