Installing cruise controll question?

Since uprading from the mk4 to the mk5 astra 1 of the only thing i miss about my old z22se is not having cc.

i bumped into a old friend at the pumps this afternoon and happened to spot we had the same car. same year,colour, spec the lot 🙁
when we got inside to pay he got all competative (you know the type, if you've been to tenerife he's been to elevenerife!!) :upyours:
he asked what bhp is it? i said 200atm > his was 225 mapped ( suprise suprise )
yours got cc he asked, it hasnt i replied
can you open the window with a key? again i had to be honest and say no :upyours: :upyours:
can you open the boot with the button ? aaaggggaaaiiiiinnnnn no i said
by this point i switched off because the 7wat was just annoying me.

it was bugging me how he had cc so i had to ask! he said by a stalk from ebay £30, take it to vx and ask then to do a tech 2 on it to switch it on, all the gubbins are ther but you just need to istall the stalk first?

first off guys, is this true, possible and as easy as he makes out?

oh and just to add... he didn't like the anthracite wheels on mine suprise suprise suprise...

Certainly is true. I've had it fitted on the VXR

Cost me £28 for the stalk from ebay, and £20 to have it activated. VX will charge you an hours labour to do it!

You can close the windows with the key, but not open them with it.
No you can't open the boot from the key, unless it's an after market kit built into an alarm of some sort.

I've had speed dependent locking activated on mine (doors lock automatically at 9mph), as well as check control (tells you if a bulb is out etc)

BOLLOX! I've never seen a map get above 200bhp. 225bhp stage two, with an intercooler, and even then, sould probably only see 215bhp.

so its just a case of buying the stalk and taking it to vx? its booked in for thurs to get my niggles sorted so if i order a stalk now, it will be here by wed. slam it in and vx can just activate it??

i thought that was a bit, jack-a-nory. 225mph is a big jump for a map from 150? :?

If they say it can't be done, show them up and give them the tech2 instructions for doing it!

Remove The Rubber Gaiter From Around The Indicator Stalk(on Mine This Was On The Left Hand Side,apparently They Can Be On The Right Aswell.although Never Heard Or Seen This).using A Small Allan Key Or Cocktail Stick,push In The Clip On The Underside Of The Stalk.this Should Release The Stalk With A Gentle Pull.push Your New Stalk Into Place And Refit The Rubber Gaiter On To The Ssteering Column Cover.

Pull Up The Cover Underneath The Handbrake To Reveal The Management Plug.with The Ignition Off,plug In Tech 2 And Turn On.
Go To Engine Ecu_diagnosticsvariant Configurationcruise Control.change This From Not Present To Present And Confirm With Program.
stage Three
Exit Back To The Main Ecu Choices Page And Go Into Bodycim(steering Control Module)_programmingsecurity Code Required(in Your Drivers Handbook Below Vin)_cruise Control,change This From Not Present To Present And Confirm With Program.
stage Four
Go Back Again Into Body At The Main Ecu Choices Pageipc/ecu(instrument Cluster Ecu)programmingprogramme Variant Configurationsecurity Code Required(in Your Drivers Manual Below Vin)_cruise Control,change This From Not Present To Present And Confirm With Programme.You may need to change the country code which can be found below the ipc/ecu choices section.You will be prompted if this is required.
stage Five
Exit Out To The Main Menu And Turn Off Your Ignition.disconnect The Tech 2 And Refit The Cover(under Handbrake).
stage Six
Take For A Nice Road Test And Enjoy The Cruise Control.

I'm just double checking with the bloke who did my SMD conversion, as he's the one who figured how to activate check control and speed dependant locking.......as even VX can't activate it using tech2, it has to be done with OPCOM. He'll know for certain if what he's saying can be retro fitted.

You could unlock my Vectra C boot using the key, but even that was removed on later models. You couldn't actually open the boot through from the key.

They'll probably ask you as well if the clutch switch is fitted. All SRI/VXR spec Astra's have it fitted as standard.

nice 1 mate, when i was looking at the listing for the stalk it did mention to be sure that you vehicle has the clutch switch fiited? good info there mate :thumbup:

It should even have the cruise control light fitted as well. For some reason mine doesn't though. CC still works, it just doesn't tell me it's on with a light on the clocks.

I've just been and tried it on the Astra, and it does work 😃
