Is the oil pump a pig to change?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be replacing the head and both chain kits on my vectra B (51 plate) and want to replace the oil pump while I'm in there just for peace of mind and I'm wondering if it's a pig of a job?

I know when I had a Astra 1.7cdti that the oil pump didn't have a gasket but came from vauxhall with a slimey sealant instead of traditional gasket. Does anyone know if they've adopted the same (non) technology for the Vectra 2.2?

Any advice on this work would be great, and is there anything else I should be changing while I'm at it?

easy to change, even more easier if you are changing the chains..
need a torx bit/driver and when i did it there appeared to be no sealant on the pump housing plate. The only other gasket is the one on the chain cover which also integrates gasket for the oil intake and output feeds which should be changed

Oh good, I was hoping it would be a fairly straightforward job! I'm doing the chains anyway, so it seems perfect sense to do the pump while I'm in there.

Well, one of the reasons I'm doing the chains is because I'm replacing the head - the old one suffered oil starvation to the exhaust cam and so I'm thinking of replacing the oil pump more as a precaution really. I think it was probably cuased by blocked oilways in the first place, but I want to be on the safe side as I really don't fancy doing all this again!

oil pumps aint cheap which is annoying since there aint nothing to them

when you say 'not cheap' what sort of money do you think I'd be looking at? With my luck, nothing I need ever seems to be cheap!!
