TB Issue P1514 - Help!!!

Hello Guys!

I have an issue.
Since the implementation of my 2.4 Inlet and 2.0SC TB i have the following issue on my ECU.

P1514 - Electronic Throttle Control Malfunction
(00) - Not present

I've implemented the TB and wired it as Vocky's project.
What might cause that, as i've checked there are not obstacles for the TB to prevent it from normal operations.
I have 2.4 Manifold, Stage 1 Compa Cams, Balance shaft removed, EGR cheater, 76mm intake pipe, Vectra C intake to the airbox, K&N panel filter, 4 in 1 custom exhaust, 2.5" exhaust system without pre cat and cat and also the 2.0SC 68mm TB!
Can you help, any idea why this is happening?

This is a common problem when using a larger TB and why no one has got the 2.4TB to work. The ECU is detecting too much air flow for the TB butterfly position. You could try attaching the map sensor to a length of pipe it has worked for some. A few people could not get around this fault though!

I've noticed something strange, when i disable the Traction Control from the TC switch the P1514 does not appear at all, but when i am driving with all safety functions on sometimes it appears and only between 3000-4000rpm. Any thoughts?

Very interesting

I have removed the main fuse in the engine compartment
and since then I have never had a tb or throttle pedal fault code
that was 4-5 years ago and never looked back even passes MOT
I have posted but thought it was due to autobox only!

interesting as on the early vauxhalls secondary throttle body flaps were used to for traction control

would that apply to throttle by wire applications

it was basically another throttle body under the standard cable throttle body

the TC throttle body / butterfly was controlled by a little servo motor attached to what looked like the linkage on any normal cable driven TB

it worked off the ABS sensors, the ABS / TC ecu basically detected variable wheel speeds and immediately closed the TC butterfly to reduce air flow

what i am thinking is whether the z22se ABS ECU has access to the fly by wire throttle body ?

I am inclined to share your opinion that it applies to all

I think it is more torque at wheels related rather than air mass
therefore I would suggest we find somebody with regular codes who is prepared to remove main fuse!

How you've did the process with removing the main fuse and where this fuse is located?
Am i going to have any negative impact to my engine if i remove the main fuse?
And do you think that this code might be related to an air leak of the manifold, because i have the mod of the Manifold to fit the 120Ah alternator with sawing and gluing with silicone the part which is closely laying next to the alternator?
Any help is much appreciated!

First thing have you got a leak
if so it needs fixing

Not sure do i have leak or not, this is the case, how to track that?
All gaskets are new, even the gasket between port 2 and 3 is the original one from the USA for the 2.4 Manifold.
My only concern is the modification which i made to match it to the 120Ah alternator, this is mine suspicion.
How can i detect/find air leak of the manifold?

removw from engine carry out low pressure or vacuum test is the proper way

As I do not know how robust your mod is
easy way is put some 0.5l water in.
Pointt the area that is modified downwards
ane wait for external moisture

Yesterday i've replaced the Manifold gaskets and after 150km no P1514 error (fingers crossed).
The manifold was tested as well no leaks and sealed very well.

Some more info on this one.
Still not able to solve the P1514 issue.
I've checked the 2.4 Manifold for leaks - no leaks at all.
All gaskets replaced - no difference.
Tried manipulating the MAF with pipe...etc - no difference.
Replaced the 2.0SC with the stock one - no errors anymore, no issues, stable driving.

What i am thinking is, because this error occurre sometimes only between 3000-4300rpm is that the the air flow which should be into the manifold for X rpm is higher than the metrics into the ECU that's why the ECU fails and pops up the P1514 (any other ideas please share i am so far out of such).

have you switched off TC?

Yes, i switched off the TC and same story.
What is the relation of the TC to the P1514 (TC is in the ABS block, P1514 is caused by the MAF).

Finally - i think the problem is solved. Months of not knowing where to start, what to change and to fix and the cause was something very stupid and small.
The extension of the TB connector was not soldered well, so what i did is i used pins (male and female) to make a solid connection, and guess what no more P1514.
I wanted to use my 2.0 SC TB, because the difference in the acceleration from the stock TB is really tangible and much better feeling of the car.
