zafira trouble

hi i have recently bought a 2001 zafira automatic i bought it sold as seen and was fully aware a problem with it but not actually knowing what the problem is so ive decided to come on here for advice my zafiras engine management light is on and also a light with a triangle with a car inside it and wavey lines under the car looks like a slippery sign now when that light comes on my zafira goes really slugish in all gears unless i use the auto box and drop ity in first and second myself can some one please tell me wat the light is and wat the problem could be as i put it out on yahoo answers and was told it was bad thas all and it would cost me about 1000 pound if that light is not on then you wouldnt know there was a problem as the zafira runs sweet as hell all help would be appreciated

Not sure but think the light is traction controll and if that and the engine light is on it might pay you to get the faults read on a diagnostics machine or get yourself a code reader.

Once you know what codes are poping up you'l have a better chance of knowing what the problem is :thumbup:

An hour at vauxhall to read the codes isnt going to cost a grand 🙂

By the sounds of it the ECU is going into limp mode. This is a safety program that the management system goes into so that it limits potential damage being caused to the engine.

Has the car got Stability Control?

Just a thought, there's a member on here ATOM X (Lee) that has a Zafira with an autobox. He should be able to point you in the right direction.

the Autobox ECU receives an input from traction control ECU
then sends output to engine ECU putting the engine in to one of two types of safety mode when there is an issue.
As we dont know what is causing your tripout into safety mode.
Tech2 can read autobox fault codes as well so if worth checking that everything is working OK
it could be something as simple as one of your wheel speed sensors is faulty

Assuming there is no system error

Then I reccomend remove traction control, ABS main fuse located in engine bay
this will stop the autobox ECU being over-ridden by traction control ECU
This fix worked well on my application as I was produced to much torque at low revs
But be aware that you driving style will have to change accordingly then this feature is removed
