Plastic primer Problem

right, here goes.

i went to halfrauds and got myself a couple cans of grey plastic primer and star silver spraypaint, to spray my centre console.

all was going well, bit under the handbrake, gear surround, ashtray and the other wee bits all turned out all right, not perfect, but all right dunno..

the main part with the radio and heater controls etc, when i applied the plastic primer, it started to bubble up in places, :evil: this has left it looking patchy but i have tryed to sand the worst of it off and prime over it again, which seems to be slowly reducing the patches.

just wanted to know if i should be worried about this, will the paint eventually fall off or anything like that?

the actual plastic seems to be undamaged, so far

did you steam clean them first mate? any grease not removed will repel the paint?

i wiped them down and dryed them, do u think if i sanded off all the primer and started fresh, with a steam clean i would be all right?

seriiously considerin gettin a pro to do it for me

Theres a rubber type coating on the stereo part of the dash.....which paint does not like adhering too....u need to sand it right back down to the plastic to get it to stick

ahhh, really, thats makes sense now, how will i tell when the rubbery coating is off? i take it its not gna peel off easily

You need to rub it down with wet and dry...u will see when its all gone....takes ages tho......i used a da on alys coupe one...didnt take as long as wet and dry....

You can see what it looks like when all the coating is off, in this pic the plastic(black bit) goes dull

thanks daz, i get the idea now, gna have to wait till next weekend now to do it, cant get the time to do it properly till then 🙁

just gna hav to deal with tit lookin bubbly till then

had this problem before its a pain, it happens because there is a little mark on the dash and when the paint get under the rubber lining it reacts and just lifts the rubber up.
only thing to do it take it back and start over.
