The OE inlet is large so that a long inlet runner can be used. It sort of curves round.
As a general rule long runners give better low down torque but make the engine less revvy at the top end so it runs out of puff. Shorter runners make it guttless low down but let it rev like hell. There are a couple of different manifolds around, have a look and see what you fancy.
