Its a combination of the oil drawn in from the cam cover breather and the exhaust gasses and soot the EGR valve recurculates through the inlet.
To stop it you can fit a catch tank into the cam breather and grab yourself an egr cheater from the shop on this site and remove and blank off the egr :thumbup:
Ive done both and its stayed cleen for a long time now.
All the crap and gunk that is in yours now has been colecting for a few years so its not like you'l be cleaning it out every week.
