how do all.
Quite an engine to have its own forum. Anyways. I'm eddie from vvoc, i know there is a few vvocers here.
I've got the dti myself however my reason for browsing here is a friends vectra B 2000 X 2.2 would not start on friday, he reckoned it was the starter, i wad thinking more battery, my opinion was quickly changed when i went to see it. When he turned her over it backfired from the side of the inlet manifold wierd looking slit with a coil design on the inside, or has something popped off?
A little bit confused by the suprising noise i hooked up the laptop and no codes, so thought i'd try again and listen a little more intently, sure enough it does it again but this time it sounds like a fast turnover with what would be best described as open chamber on the inlet side at point of ignition.
That to me was timing out, i did actually warn the owner that the 2.2 had chain issue's. I now wish i'd pointed this out more sternly. This was in the night so suggested i came back when it was light and confirm a chain failure, i took off the rocker cover and to my suprise chain is still there but there is some loose chain guides down the bottom. So were now 99.9 percent certain its suffered a chain failure but would seem more like a chain slip rather than a snap.
Ok now your up to speed, we are going to move the car to somewhere it can stay a while and i'm going to take the lower chain cover off to see what damage there is down there. I may also point out that when trying to turn the crank manually with plugs out it hit heavy resistance and would not rotate. This adds fuel to the chain, but i have nothing to show the owner to proove my suspicions till i get the lower cover off.
I've had a good look round the forum, chain slippage to be fully confirmed is it worth attempting a repair or should it get stripped? I've seen a post or two mentioning valve damage with just 1 tooth out is this true?
Anything i should be aware of before removing bottom cover? I'll add i've never worked on a z22se before today so i know nothing about them.
Many thanks
eddie
