Exhaust rattle

Noticed over the past couple of weeks a rattle on the exhaust when it's cold. It's coming from the rear of the car, as when I hold the exhaust still, it stops. Had a look under tonight and the hangers all look OK. Is there anything else I can check?

Is the silencer of the clam shell design....as the outer skins on them tend to FALL APART.

This is what the exhaust looks like

The rattle stops when I hold the exhaust trim, or press upwards on the pipe between that and the rear box.

It only does it when cold as well, so something expanding when it gets warm stops it from happening.

I had a look this evening, and couldn't see anything. It's definately between the back box and the tail pipe, which is why I was thinking more to do with the rubber hanger which is allowing the exhaust to move up and down, as you can see the exhaust moving when you start the car up.

I'll try and get a video before I go to work in the morning when it's cold.

Cheers Lee, it was raining this morning when I got up, so haven't had a look. Will try again tomorrow, and will let you know.

the noise probley stops when it warmed up as the exhaust has got hot and expanded and sort of grown in to the area where it lose as such when its cold it can move about thus making the rattling.
it could be dead from the pipe coming out of the box inside or the trim on end of exhaust coming lose ???? what..

Heat shield is fine. Been out now and had a good prod, and nothing is moving, and the exhaust isn't toutching it anywhere.

It's not done it for a couple of days either, so will just keep an eye on it and see if it does it again.

Thats a bit of an odd one that! And probably anoying not knowing what it is!

Yeah, I definately know it's the exhaust, as when I held the tail tipe, it stopped, but exactly what was rattling is a mystery for the time being.

Will get blue se2 to take a look around while it's on his ramp in two weeks.

It did it again last night.

Been out this morning, as a member on VXROnline had the same issue, and it was because the rubber hangers had worked their way to the end of the hanger arms. So, just been and pushed them back towards the front end of the car, and will see what it's like on the way home tonight.
