Guys, I'd read all thread but I don't find the answer for myself: what's the common reason of chain slipping, snapping or even tearing on 22se engine?
I read something about old type oil nozzle, but I can't understand why it causes such a mess! Lack of oil on the chain? So what? :crazy: Why in tears :wtf:
It can begin snapping only in two reasons, in the case of tensioner failure or when the chain guide are broken. Am I right? And what's the most frequently problem?

As much as I read this board I begin to terrify :mrgreen:

The tensioner works from oil pressure. Lack of oil from the blocked jet which is roughly 1mm diameter leads to oil starvation. With a combination of this and the chain running in very hot temps, this causes heavy fatigue on the chain components. You are quite correct about the guides too.

It's seems strange to me that blocked jet leads to oil starvation in tensioner :wtf:

JohnnyN sums it up really, im a victim of the chain snapping collection due to lack of oil getting to the chain, costling me a grand total of nealry £1500 by the time i source a replacement, clutch, timing kit etc :thumbdown:

there are a few reasons for chain failure on the z22se/z22yh engines

number one: old type oil jet blocks, the old type has a 1mm hole - new type has a 4mm hole :wtf:

number two: chain tensioner seizes and thus applies too little tension causing the chain to jump a tooth, lack of oil / wear

number three: chain guides break, they become brittle with age

it is probably wise to replace the chains on early engines
also always listen for any rattles on cold start up - the first sign of impending doom :thumbdown:
the chains are designed to last only 100,000 miles / 160,000 Km, but I believe some dealers recommend changing at 80,000 miles

When I bought this car, there was some papers given me, paprs from different car services (m-m-m I can't remember the right meaning of the place where cars are fixing) where I had found interesting record: "Abnormal sound from the engine" and then "Changing the chain....." and the price
There was also written the number from the odometer - 100 000 km (₆₂ 000 m). And I don't know what exactly was changed, one chain or both, only chains or with tensoiners, rails and oil jet. 🙁
But I live in such country where everyone try to save their money! So I think, I have just a new chain :lol:

Now I had 175 000 on my ODO (110 000 m) and my engine works very silent and smooth.

Besides I'm holding a new one oil jet in my hands right now 8) Well, at the first possibility I'll install it. 🙂

The chances are that they have only replaced the cam chain kit. This would have fitted together with the new type oil jet along with guides and tensioner. The new cam chain kits have been in circulation now for at least 5 years.
