low idle speed and jerky take up changing gear

help!! just bought a '02 astra bertone 2.2, 82k fsh, car idles very low, between 6 and 7 thousand and i've noticed when changing gear the car doesn't take up the throttle smooth also the mpg ain't good, barely getting into the 20's!!!!! i've had the throttle body and the egr valve off and cleaned both with carb cleaner although they were both fairly clean, any ideas??? maybe coil pack????

could be the mixture lambda sensor or even the coolant temp sensor dunno..

think the cts is ok as the gauge reads fine or does the cts have a separate circuit for mixture??? notsure.gif had a cts fail on an sri astra before but gauge dropped to cold and the car was v hard to drive and a pig to start, my car seems to go ok accelerating and starts fine, think a trip to diagnostics is on the cards........

the cts reports directly to the ecu, then the ecu sends a signal to the dash

Bit of the subject lol but I see your from Armagh. I quite close to Armagh and own a coupe. By any chance is yours a black 1??

now the sht has hit the fan, took the car to a local mechanic who put it on the computer and told me all was ok on the engine side but the cts was faulty, ordered a new one and just now fitted it, started the car, seemed ok so went into the house to get keys to move girlfriends car to take it for a drive, but when i came out not 2 mins later it had started rattling real bad,seems like cam chain end of engine, only thing is was still idleing fine and after swearing and shouting for ten mins i tried to start it and it starts fine too and idles ok, i know its prob cam chain or a tensioner but was wondering the fact that its still idling and starts ok will there be any internal damage done???? if i thought there was i'd put an engine in it rather than spend a fortune on getting the mother f***** ba***** of a fkin ct of a thing done up :evil: :evil:

update; just lifted off the cam cover, def something up with chain or more likely tensioner, chain is really loose 🙁 , is it worth just fitting the cam chain kit or should i get the balance chain kit too????

Do the balance chain !!!!
Had the timing chain at 28k (covered by Opel) and 25k later the balance chain went at 4000rpm. Pure luck saved me from another new head, balance chain had just folded itself in the sump.
Had all chains, guides, tensioners, nozzles, water pump, head seal, valve seals etc. done after that (covered by me). Up to now (115k) no mechanical problems.

get the lot done either benny or daz may do you a good price, too many of our chains have already failed from inaction!
i had mine booked for when i had enough money, and it failed two weeks before i was due to go!
