TC off button

Hi, guys!
I need your help one more time.

I want to make a TC switch off button, but I've got some problems in ordering needed spare parts (button, wires...). Unfortunatly in Russia this positions are difficultly to find, even to order from foreign contries.

So, I read a "how to" manual and get one question to those of you who made such modification =)
Did this TC button only connects pin №31 to the ground when pushed?

If it is so I could use any button wich will provide connection pin31 to the ground?
Am I right, guys?

yes

the switch basically sends an earth pulse to the TC /ABS ECU to switch the traction control on/ off

the pin no [wire] is a live cable in need of earthing to create a circuit lol

i think he meant to say "the pin, NOT the wire"
english is a funny old language we leave a lot of stuff out, but still understand each other (till you get too far north!)

For me it's much more difficult to speak with Americans.
As for me I think that they made some sort of their own English language... it's terrible, especially in the web, where everybody write as they want. notsure.gif

just "fitted" the TC button, it lights up and as far as i know is fitted correctly.

however when pushed it does absolutely sweet fook all, its connected to pin number 31 and the ground on the top of the suspension thingy.

was wondering if i should get an automotive electrician involved to get it working as i had the idea to put it in pin number 25 instead but theres already a wire in that one, lots of head scratching followed until the light faded and i just put it back together.

has anyone got any advice as what to do?

I assume that the connections are all all right as it hasnt made mincemeat of the electrics and is lighting up when the main lights come on.

next problem, apart from it not turning off the traction control

it drains the battery from full overnight, what a kick in the balls, would it be alright if i just disconnected it behind the ashtray panel or should i expect the current draw to be somewhere else? notsure.gif

That is intresting, Johnny do you think this could be a cause of your power leak?

i take it that johnny has a traction control switch as well, so im not alone then, just gettin hit pretty hard by a common problem

thinkin bout goin to an auto electrician, but dont really wanna sheel out loadsa cash gettin it perfect

This exactly what i'm thinking Si. It would have been around the sort of time after I fitted it.

I've had this problem for years. I had a bit of a purge on it last year but gave up in the end. If I drive the car everyday then its fine but if I leave it for a few days then the battery goes flat. There is definately a drain somewhere as it shows on the multimeter.

TBH I didn't really look into the TC side of it. I'll remove the switch and see if it makes any difference on the meter? Hopefully we'll get a break in the weather so I can roll the car out the garage and have a check.

my problem is (and ur not gonna like this johnny) that before i fitted the switch i had that problem, bu tdidnt think too much of it cos it was all right over a weekend if i left it from bout 6pm on friday till 8am on monday, unless it was sub zero, then it was hopeless.

just now it has been shortened to overnight, im actually kinda thinkin it might be a problem just while im at work as well so i brought the jump leads with me the day, hopefully i wont have to use them

this really shouldn't be draining the power. I think the issue your having is elsewhere.

cheapest and easiest way to fit a TC switch.

Run a cable from pin 31 (25 is for vehicles with ESP) in the cabin of the car where you want the switch.
Run a wire from a ground feed in the cabin to where the switch will be.
Purchase and install momentary switch and hook wires up to it.

I am sure you will have some wire somewhere in the house (I used speaker wire for mine) and my old switch cost me $1.00 (or you could use a computer power switch)

thats exactly what i did, o figured id use pin 31 cos my pin 25 already had a wire comin out of it, but it must of created a circuit when on and off, so drained the battery completely in a matter of hours.

i do however have another drain that if left for bout 2 days when warm or 1 day when cold drains enough to not be able to start the car.

Mines been standing for 7 weeks now still on original battery and starts first time.

May be of interest certainly a multimeter would come in handy.

Check for parasitic drain on battery, remove new components - if it reduces drain then its sorted

Right, tonight i hooked up a wire from pin 31 straight to the earth point. When I start the car the TC light comes on for about 20secs then goes off again notsure.gif

Not tested it yet because the girlfriend was in the car, but I assume because the light goes off the TC is also off...anyone got any ideas where i'm going worng??
