Water pump leak????

I managed to fix my weeping oil filter cap and re sealed the p/s pump but have also found this:

Its the underside of the water pump leaking oil :eh: Its not running down from anyware else and its now driping off it!

Not good and a bit of a worry.

Anyone else had the same problem and whats the way around it?

wish i kept my mouth shut, I knew you wasnt blowing that much oil to lose the amount u was saying, u was leaking it out lol

it is leaking from inside the pump housing

only way to cure it is pump off and new seal

it is considered good practise to replace pump whilst your at it

it is chain off job or get the tool to replicate the water pump bolts to keep the chain in place

i had that leak and I didn't notice how much oil i was losing until the warning thing came up on my MID / TID

with the main seal, oil filter housing & water pump leaking i was getting through about a litre every month

So is it a new water pump job then?

Do the pumps come with a seal?

And how much am i looking at for a pump?

Be a good excuse to swap the balancer chain tentioner to a z20net one :wink:

genuine water pump comes with seal

it is a kit

cost about £70 with trade club

the tool to lock down the chain costs about £50 - £70

new balancer chain costs a tad more

Ive seen them on the bay for 50 quid? any good or better going genuin?

I recon i could make a tool to hold the W/P sprocket so thats free.

Tis not a pleasant job to do either......downpipe and manifold needs to be removed to get the pump out, i've only ever done 1 and i wudnt do another....

Great :lol: Ill only have to do it once hopefully! Did you do it with the tool or timing case off?

Nope its deffinatly the water pump. Ive had a good look at the tentioner and above the water pump and its as dry as a bone.

Would of been happyer with the tentioner leaking tho 🙁

Oh well better save some cash for a new one.

is it leaking from the mounting face ?

there are four bolts holding the pump on, might be worth checking they are tight dunno..

Just gave all the mounting bolts a brave tweek! some needing a bit more than others :wtf:

Cleaned it off and see what its like after a run to work tomorrow.

leaking same place as mine burt

the oil is coming through the seal inside the pump and out through the housing and at the bottom bolt

Yep thats what it looks like mike, even if by tweeking the bolts up for now stops it im still going to have to change it 🙁

couple of weeks and it'l be rite!
