gearbox overfill? bad thing?

What's the implications if I overfill my gearbox with transmission fluid?
Will it be ok or will it cause some major damage? I just changed the oil on my vx220 but did it by measurement (1.55lt) rather than the overflow plug because the bolts on my rear undertray are threaded and I couldn't get to the level plug.

The gearbox feels a little sticky and I think it could do with a bit more oil, but what's the worst that will happen if I put in the remainder of the 1l bottle I have? (0.45l)

Will something go bang? :think:

The F40 gearbox on the Vectra C was overfilled by 0.8litre from factory, and just caused notchy gear change.

If it's not going to cause any damage I might just throw the rest of the bottle in?!?!?
The VX has a very notchy gear change at the best of times so it wouldn't be anything new.

Anyone had any other bad experiences before I go ahead and do it?

1.5 litres is fine, vauxhall recommend overfilling the F23 slightly :thumbup:

I changed my fluid in mine about 1 year ago. Quite possibly overfilled.
Ever since I have been having major probs. Issue was that I was told by several people different amounts of fluid to refill the gearbox with. In the end I went with Holdens (I live in Australia) recommendation from their system of 3.5 litres (similar amount to what was drained).

I take it this is too much for an F23 gearbox?

It is only an issue when driving the car extremely hard. I am up to my 5th reverse light switch in the last 12 months as the seal or plastic always breaks and causes oil to leak out.

Apart from that though the gearbox is much smoother since the change.
