fitting roof mounted monitor

hi, has anybody fitted a roof mounted monitor into there astra coupe? i have bought a dvd head unit with built in screen.. but need to put a screen in the back so the kids can watch aswell.. how hard is it 2 wire up couple of the head rest monitors? ideally i would like to put in a flip down roof mounted monitor.. is there a beam going accross the roof that i can bolt the screen 2?

The factory ones in the Vec are stuck to the roof skin with double sided tape. I have a none VX (ebay special). The way it holds itself up is it just sandwiches the roof lining in between the screen housing and a plate, the Vec C lining is quite strong however.

cheerz.. i guess i could try sum heavy duty velcro.. or sum strong double sided stuff, are the headrest ones hard 2 wire up? do i hav 2 get the seat out of the car to wire it through to the bottom?

I'd imagine its just a case of a coat hanger down the back. One the Vec c we have active head restraints, in an impact the rear of the seat is hinged, so the backward pressure of your back on the seat pushes the head rests forward, this helps up when it comes to screens as you can just pop out the seat backs. The link at the end of the thread is a VX dealer getting rid of old stock. This is the proper VX DVD player which is removable and should come with infrared headphones. Don't know it its any interest to you as you already have a HU in the front.

In the haynes incar manual they say to stick (using no more nails etc) some MDF to the roof under the headlining and screw the unit onto that????

Thats how mine's held on but its a metal plate. the roof lining gets sandwiched in between.

thanks guys!! very helpful.. jus another things.. is the roof lining hard to undo.. and put back as it was? how is it held in place? i'm gona go with the mdf under the roof lining.. held with the no more nails.

The Vec C's is quite stiff, almost looks like fibreglass, but its held up by the inner door rubber trims, A,B and C pillar covers and grab handles. There's also some Velcro.

i dunno if i'm defo gona put it in yet.. if i do then i'l put a step by step guide... i'm jus thinkin if i sell the car then i'm gona loose money, cos i cant exactly rip it back out.lol

true.. ur rite.. but the astra coupes now aint worth that much anyway .. unless its a turbo or convertable... so it wouldnt sell for much more then any other coupe... i do like a gadget or 2 though... so mayb i will do it if i find a screen cheap
