Vectra SRi 150 Buying tips?

I'm hopefully going to look at some Vectra SRi 150s this weekend (if I can find any close enough).

Looking to spend around £3000-£3500 and looking on Autotrader it seems I can expect an X,Y,or 51 reg for that sort of money. Ideally I want one with under 70k miles as I intend on keeping it long term (I've had my Cavalier SRi for five years now!!).

There are probably already loads of posts similar to this in this forum, but I've not searched yet, so forgive me if I'm going over stuff that's already been covered :oops:

Has anyone got any tips on what to check and what to look out for when buying a 2.2 Vectra? I'm kind of aware of the timing chain issue and that there was a recall by Vauxhall about the nozzle that lubes the chain. Do you know whether Vauxhall would still replace this if I bought one that hadn't yet been modified?

Any help or useful info gratefully received. 8)

as you have said the chain issue is the most important really,make sure it has had a regular service at least every 6k for an oil change really,apart from that there is not much else to check for really,just the useall stuff.

have a look in the cam chain section for advise on this 😃

another thing to check is the rear door catches, they tend to rust around them and then become quite unsafe.

Another thing to look out for is a thunk through the steering when manouvering at low speeds. This is the steering knuckle joint and is a known fault.

just thought of another, there was a recall to fit a bracket to one of the air con pipes

if this bracket is missing the pipe will snap and will cost you a few quid to replace.

Well, I went and had a look at one on Saturday.

Y reg Vectra SRi 150 hatchback, 85k miles, up for £4295.

It was too expensive for the mileage in my opinion, but I wanted to go and look at one and take one for a drive. That way at least I have experienced one and can use it as a benchmark for any others I view. Plus I hate to buy the first thing I see :lol:

The car itself was OK apart from a couple of faults. The aircon pipe was broken. The bracket hadn't been fitted (at this point I started ranting about the fact that no doubt none of the other recalls would have been done and the timing chain is probably about to snap! etc etc 😃 ).

The thunk on the steering at low speeds was there too, but other than that it drove very well, with no creaking from the rear suspension (which is another common problem I've been told about).

Far too expensive really. Ideally I want one with well under 70k miles on the clock too. Still, at least I've driven one now. So, it's back to the autotrader (etc) websites to find another one!

ac pipe is around £75 plus fitting and servicing and filling of ac £200ish total, timing chain kit and fitting is around £500 these are vauxhall prices.
