Hi All,
Trying to diagnose my coolant loss the other day, I noticed a strange smell when I opened my header tank. Put a lighter to it and sure enough it ignited with a small flame for a few seconds. (Does this make me brave showo.. or stupid? On second thoughts please don't answer that, but if there's enough demand I'm prepared to video it and put it on youtube!!)
I'm presuming that my lpg is leaking into the header tank from a head gasket failure (either that or the gas heat exchange unit has an internal leak) unless anyone has any other suggestions?
Just wanted to ask,
1) is there a preferred make of headgasket or is a headgasket just a headgasket. I ask because there's various items on ebay with varying prices and wouldn't want to fit anything substandard, but in the same vein, don't want to be ripped off and pay twice the price for something. I know you get what you pay for, but there's people who will gladly sell a £20 item for £50 to the clueless.
2) Should I get the head skimmed? Is there an issue with clearance if I do? Is it one of those things which "I may as well do whilst the head is off" or is it something that I should strictly only have done if obvious imperfections in the cylinder head are present?
3) What else will I need (I'm doing the timing chain and balancer chain as well), so presumably if I do get the head skimmed I'll need inlet manifold gasket, exhaust gasket (as well as the usual parts for a chain change which I have already got thanks to the z22se parts list), stretch bolts, anything else?
