fed up with the chains!

hi all,

Ive finally managed to save up some money to get 10 valves done and spend 220 on parts to put my engine back together 🙂

But after spending yesterday in the cold under my gazebo i found that the balance chain is loose and a chain guide from the cam chain (black one) has snaped in half and theres missing bits which at a guess have fallen into the sump :thumbdown:

Im so fed up right now and to top it all off my golf gti i was using for the winter has been written off thanks to an 88 year old man pulling out in front of me so i need to get my astra fixed asap :x

Questions are, how much is the balance chain kit? how do you set up the timing marks? and i take it i will have to take the sump off to find the missing bits?

sump is quite easy to remove on the z22se, just undo the bolts and it comes off

just remember to use sealant on the joint between the sump and block, especially the oil pick up joint :thumbup:

balancer chain kit is approx the same price as the cam chain kit

thanks, ive got some off that hylomar blue universal gasket sealer. should be ok right?

also has anyone got pics of engine bay? reason i ask its been a long time since i took it apart and cant remember where the loom wires go. :?

The dealers have raised the price of the Balance Chain Kit since January. They are around £110/£120 from ebay now and dealers are around £130 +VAT IIRC.

s**t that is high, and theres less in the kit then the cam one!

well i cant wait for ebay so going to bite the bullet today :thumbdown:
