OK to give you some background to my current problem. A couple of weeks ago the EML came on when the engine was put under load and put the car into limp mode. After an ECU reset the problem would be repeated and the error code of Random Engine Misfire was recorded. I disconnected the EGR and although the EML was on, the car would not go into a full limp mode when put under load.
Having done some research I felt the probable cause was the EGR and so fitted the EGR Cheater from here ( Thanks Vocky & Matt). Unfortunately this made the car respond in the same way as above, EML on and then flashing EML (Limp mode) under load. This made me believe it was not the EGR causing the issue in the first place.
After some more research the next potential cause was a tired ignition module - Car has done 82k miles. So £100 lighter for a new module and unfortunately this has not rectified the problem.
So essentially the car has the EGR Cheater and a new Ignition module fitted however the car still goes into a limp mode under any load. The EML is on and the fault code is recording Random Engine Misfire. Can anyone please advise me on what could be the cause of this problem as I really do not have a clue.
Thanks
Adam
