Hye guys need some advice please.

My piston rings need replacing. now i am capable to do this but what i need help with is what parts i need exactly.

i know i need piston rings and head gasket set.

but what eles do i need.

whats the best way to clean the head. some people say mr muscle foam clean some say thinners etc.. what do you guys recommend 🙂

Best thing to do would be to grab yourself a haynes manual that'l tell you everything you need and the order to do it in :thumbup:

Cover the head in wd40 and leave to soak in for half hour then jet wash it off, might have to do it a couple of times. Or dishwasher but dont tell the missus!!

Autovaux are prity good for parts.

what about cleaning the top of the bottom end?

WD40 and jet wash. If you give it a good going over before you strip the engine it'l make things easyer/cleaner to handle :thumbup:

Just make sure you block all the holes up first.

Seriouse comment on the dishwasher tho! long as all the heavy dirt is off it first and no fluids in it. Its sort oif at your own risk tho it wont damage the head or other aluminuim parts but might shorten the washers life expectancy, MIGHT!

ok so seriously what do i need. were is best place to obtain parts from what i can think i need;

head gasket set
head bolts
piston rings
gasket paste for sump
oil and oil filter

am i missing anything? do i clean the piston tops by sanding them? etc..

is there any way to properly clean the lifters to make um LIKE new 🙂 sorry for all the questions yer am gunna get a haynes manual to help but not getting it for a week or 2 as waiting on wages 🙂

you only need the head gasket and exhaust manifold gasket not a head set :thumbup:

how come? aint it the around the same price? plus i get valve steam oil seals so could replace and overhaul head at same time mebe?

what this about taken pistons out from the bottom? would that not save money?

crank would need dropping m8

and u will find putting a crank on is harder than putting the head on due to clearances etc

normal practise is to drop the sump, take the head off, undo the cap on the rod and give the piston a gentle tap up the cylinder walls whilst watching u dont scratch the cylinder walls

if you plan on rebuilding the head then get the head set, I thought you were just going to whip the pistons out only
