When should I get my chain changed?

I'm really sorry for askin- i bet you get asked this all the time but when does it or should it be done.

I've checked the manual and obviously it does not say.

We have owned our car (03 Plate) since it was 2 and a half years old with 8500 miles on it. Its our main car and my wife uses it for a 80 mile commute 3 times a week. It now has 80,000 miles on it and we have never had any problems - touch wood.

Any thoughts?

About 100,000 is the limit on them. but after 80 though id just keep an eye or ear out for cold start rattles :thumbup:

That has helped me loads cheers. I was having fears of it being 30,000 over due or something like that. LOL

I've got a Z20LET as well that I've spent a small fortune on cos it keeps breaking on me. D'OH.

They never put a service time on the chains. I gues they thought they would last forever :crazy:

my astra 03 plate has only covered 22k miles, however, it is a 7 year old car. i realise that the earlier engines are the main culprits when it comes to timing chain issues but wondered if age came into it as well? am i good til 100k (listening out for oddities around 80k?)

the car i recently changed the chain had done 40k the chain looked new i looked at the bottom sprocket luckily it got changed as it would have slipped was weird to see tbh
