hey... this should be a quick and easy one... and i think i know the answer, but want to confirm it before taking any action...

my vectra B 2.2 sri is burning oil, and the engine has given me nothing but greif...

a mate of mine has rung me up about a zafira (i think an 03 plate or 53 plate) also with a 2.2 engine in which has been rolled and is going cheap.

will the engine swap straight across and fit straight in with no issues or will i have to do anything with it? (for example anything about the powersteering pump etc?)

it should just be a straight swap, you may have to swap your ecu onto it coz of the immobiliser, (as long as its not the 2.2 direct)
the power steering pump on a z22se is electronic so no real need to worry about it disconnect any wiring (there will be one iirc that attaches to the underside of the 60a main fuse in your engine bay thats a bit of a pain) :thumbup: best of luck

The powersteering on the Vectra is MECHANICAL NOT ELECTRICAL!! You would need to replace the inlet cam in the new engine from the old engine as the inlet has a hexagon drive in the end for the pump to mate up with . Other than that its a straight swap. The Vectra B was the only z22se with a mechanical steering pump. Astra/Zafira/Vectra C are electrical and the vx220 doesn't have power steering at all.

you cannot fit a z22yh in place of a z22se, completely different head and fuel injection system :thumbdown:

cool... cheers guys... im not 100% sure what you meant by swapping the ECU though?... do you mean i may need to use the ECU from the zafira in my vectra? notsure.gif

the ignition key transponder ring in your car will transmit a signal to the ecu for the immobiliser, so it just may not start with the ecu on your new engine. just swap em if so. it'll be easy enuf :thumbup:

gotcha... not sure if its too late for that car though... i mentioned it to my mate and he didnt have much to say... he offered me an 80 quid vectra with a 2.2 engine in a week or 2 ago aswell... but that got scrapped before i could lay my hands on it :thumbdown:

anyways... ive heard mixed reviews on oil additives to help prevent/reduce oil burnining... think i'll give that a go first... a lot less hastle than swapping the engine...
