Hi guys,
Just thought I’d share this with you, maybe help a few folk out.
My astra had been suffering some serious problems, a few months back the car started cutting out when approaching junctions, about this time the MPG started get really bad, progressively the problems got worse, the car began miss firing when driving a constant speed, hesitating (occasionally) when pulling away. Also EML was continuously on (although this wasn't the case when the problems began - it would occasionally go out)
I see from the boards these problems appear to be affecting a few people, I also see the first suggestion is generally EGR valve. I replaced my EGR valve with a working unit (Mate had spare on shelf), no difference.
The problems have all now been taken care off by replacing the front lambda sensor, (Vx - over 120+vat(supply only), NGK - 53quid, 20 mins DIY) - The car is now back to normal.
Another problem which I have had for approx 18 months was random revving when I pressed the clutch, sometimes the car would rev to 1500 or 2000rpm instead of back to idle, like I say this started approx 18months ago, this seems to have been cured also so maybe this was the early stages of the Lambda sensor breaking down.
Just thought this info might help a few folk with similar problems.
