Fitted my boost gauge

I am half way through fitting my Stack boost gauge on my Vectra Turbo. This time it's an electrical one. It was a little tricky getting the wires from one side of the car to the other but it's done. I just hope I don't have any air leaks :think: . The T piece onto the black cut pipe I cut was a little too easy to join up, the black pipe might be a little too big for the T peace dunno.. . The blue pipe I bought was a lovely tight fit, I might have to remove the short black pipe and put some blue spare I have left onto them. All I need to do now is join up the live and earth and light wires drool.gif

Cheers 🙂. I have just finished it all off, had loads of bother removing my headunit so I could get the wires through. It's in a bit of a mess now lol. Video coming soon as I am off out in it now for a test run............................

I am getting boost readings of about 15psi, maybe 13 to 14psi at some stages. In 6th gear it sits perfect at 14 nearly 15psi. Is that about right for stage 1 BSR map? I have fitted my gauge in the vent hole on the dash, it fits great and does not move about lol. I might shift it further back yet. Cheers

Looks a good gauge mark....not sure what ure boost should be tho.....my scoob on its standard map boosts at 1bar which is 14.5037738 pounds per square inch....

Cheers. The gauge cost me £141 delivered. My car was only 170Bhp standard so a little more boost from the re map should be at about 14psi I would think. I just don't know what mine is standard at it's boost, I think about 8 or 9 psi ? I did a quick video of it boosting but the camera was too far away, my girlfriend had the camera on the back seat but you can't make the psi out :roll:

Looks like its all working right anyway Mark. In my car, anything from below -0 is vacuum and you'll be on boost from anything over +0. I'm not sure if the same can be said for turbo applications as the pressure needs to build up first. I've had my boost gauge reading 18psi on a Second Severn Crossing race from the toll booths on my way to Daz's house, lol!! I was certainly giving it beans that morning. I even phoned Jon at Courtenay to find out if it should be seeing those kind of pressures and he was fine with that.

Where does the electronic side of things come in then Mark?

Most of the gauge is electronic. It has a plug on the rear and a plug that goes to a map sensor under the bonnet. It has a vac tube from the map sensor to a T piece on my vac line on the car. I think it's very accurate!

On tick over it sits at this mark

Engine off it sits at 0

Does the needle sweep at start up same as the dials in the VXR as well.

I got it from Demon Tweaks Matt. It's the second top price gauge for the boost I bought, the next one up does the full sweep thing on start up. I thought mine would as mine is a sweep one. Mine is a Professional Boost Pressure gauge, 270º full sweep movement for excellent readability, Fast, smooth stepper motor needle drive, All-electronic design for maximum reliability. I bought a good one this time.

Nope, going to have to pod mount it on the dash in the same place you've got yours.

Mark, how did you get power to the MAP sensor which was supplied? Did you take the power from inside the car, along with the power to the gauge itself?

I used the live and earth from the back of the radio Matt, I used the cig lighter light for when it's switched on and off for the light on the gauge. 3 Wires from my gauge stopped inside the car and I had to feed the plug for the map sensor through to under the bonnet from my grommet in the firewall.

Did you have to supply separate power to the sensor in the engine bay?

I've got on mine:

Gauge:
Black - Engine Ground
Green - Boost Sensor
Red - Ignition Switch 12V+
Orange - Dimmer/+12V to dim connect to light

Sensor:
Black - Engine Ground
Red - Ignition Switch 12V+
White - Connect to back of gauge Green wire.

My map sensor had a plug harness, it was all joined up down the line some place. All I had to do with mine was give it a live, earth and live for the light on the gauge, but one that turned off on ignition off ie my cig lighter light.
