Engine Mounts, any differences?

right, heres my problem.

gettin an engine transplant at the moment, the mechanic doing it says the engine mounts arent the same , but the engine has come out of a 53 plate astra and is goin into a 52 plate astra, is there much difference from one year to the next, first thing that sprung to mind was, when did they introduce that plastic cover, they coulda changed the set up then?

Also, does anyone think the breakers just didnt take it outta an astra and its got vectra engine mounts? notsure.gif

any info / advice is greatly appreciated, goin a bit mad here, thinnkin it might cost me a lot more/ keep the car of the road a lot longer 🙁

im fitting a z20net with the same basic engine block and i can confirm i am using my old z22se mounts on the newer block it plopped in without any mods,

i would suggest he removes your old mounts (they are 2 parts the bit that fits to the block and the mount itself) and fits the parts 1 to your car and the other to the block then hoist the block up from underneath.. :thumbup:

that would be the smart thing, but im assuming he thinks theyrs sumthing wrong with them, either that or he is making excuses. gonna hav to get a straight answer outta him soon
did u put the 2 litre lump in an astra btw? much difference between the vec / astra mounts?

yes its in an astra g, the vec mounts iirc had the mounting holes a little further forward, which meant the engine would have been in my bulkhead!

what horsepower can u get up to with the 2l turbo?

i would like to see 220+ it started off as an easier job as a lot of parts could be re-used from the origional engine bay,
thats where it stopped being easy!
its only ecu issues because of the can based ecu, but that requires cable throttle, different turbo actuator, idle air control and thats after you get around the space issues! it goes straight in without mods but you need room for exhausts and stuff,

i would probably go for a z20let if iwere to do it again but they are still costly to fit as then mounts and exhaust system come into play then!

its all fun tho! and at least the weathers better now!

popped by the garage this morning, its finally upon the ramp, with its old guts out, should have it back on the road for late monday or early tuesday.

then the mods will start, ill leave her for a few hours to get the feel for the new engine, set myself a cheeky benchmark to see how the mods improve it. :thumbup: :thumbup:

wooohooo, just had a fone call from the mechanic, my engine is in and crankin, BUT THE FOOOKIN ECU's ARE CONFLICTING, cant believe i hav to send it to the stealership to get the ecus remapped to work together, but then it can be MOT'd and i can drive it again, for the first tim ein 6 months, woooop wooooop

are your dealers gonna let you do that? mine refused and ive had to get an aftermarket ecu......

the mechanic im using knowsa guy apparantly, has to do it all the time, pays to have contacts i guess, how much is an aftermarket ecu?

the mega squirt 2 v3(the one im using) is about £375 from a supplier you can probably get em off ebay cheaper but no warranty/support etc then i think its quite a big jump in price for the dta's etc. spose rik is the man to speak to i think thats what hes using.
