Do these have a life span??

My internet was dropping out constantly yesterday. Called my ISP, who said the profile I was on had dropped out over 500 times so far, and the symptoms were the ADSL filter. They said they recommend replacing them every 6 months???

I have never heard that one, sounds like bullshit to me. I have had my filters for at least five years or more and i have never had a single problem with them.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm still going to get a new one today, and will see if it fixes it. Will be interesting if it does.

use a program called dmt for the dg834gt router matt

same here, mines been workin fine for bout 3 years, only time i ever had any problem with it is when my brother decided it would be a good idea to move it to another room, and put it before the modem part when he set it all back up, meaning the signal was being filtered before it was bein used, leading to my piss poor connection and it tended to be quite unreliable, but unless uv been playing about with where uv got it all set up, u shouldnt have this problem. hope u get it all sorted

The filter is straight into the master socket. It's also straight into the test socket, as I've removed the face plate on the master socket to get the best possible connection. I've put a new filter on, and changed my profile back to standard, and it's been stable so far.

u got quite high Attenuation and a decent sync speed m8

I would be happy with over 8mb with that level of attenuation let alone touching 9mb

u might want to increase your SNR levels to 10 - 12 DB uisng DMT tool [cli tab] but I know with bethere that u do get SNR drop in the evenings so if your using a low SNR profile u get a lot of drop outs, stability issues around 1 - -1 SNR also keep an eye on your power levels during the day m8

also using the dmt tool to monitor your connection for 24 hours then email it over to your service provider to look at

4 years ago matt u be lucky to find an ISP who would offer you 2mb with that level of attenuation using standard adsl

whilst your messing with that then buy an adsl face plate from www.solwise.co.uk

personally i just buy a whole new master socket with adsl face plate

other interference is wireless networks, DACs fones, other wirelesss equipment, TV's

Cheers Mike, I can increase the speed even further by setting my profile with Be to have it run at over 10mb, which is what I was on before, and have been since I got the internet in this house.

yeh turning off interleaving thus removing error checking increases sync speeds but you massively increase packet loss and corruption to the point where your wasting bandwidth on a useless connection. bethere call it fast path

also reducing your SNR profiles will increase bandwidth, but increase drop outs further more so during early evening when everyone is using their connections

Changed my profile back to the stable one just now, and ran my stats through an automated checker

i lowered down the SNRm to 3 and as you can see due to the peak hours [ evening] concerning lamppost lights and traffic my SNRm has dropped .8

without annex M i can get 20mb but hey i like upload bandwidth

TBH, since I've stopped downloading, I'm not really fussed about the speed that much, as long as I get a stable connection.

considering your line length and attenuation [4 - 5km guessimate] i think you got a decent sync there

might be radio frequencies interference
