Clutch and Flywheel advice Appreciated

Time has come i feel to be researching for a clutch and possible fly wheel, dont have loads to spend but dont want to skimp.

Firstly biting point is very high and snaps if i put the clutch in quickly in first i assume these are symptoms of the clutch on its last legs is that correcT? if not please let me know lol i dont know what to expect in terms of duration left but its not slipping at all at the moment.

I live in the birmingham area and have just moved here so have no really honest trustworthy garages under my belt so anyone again in the area advising garages will be great, if not i dont mind going to vauxhall but dread to think what they will charge to get the job done.

Probably prefer getting the clutch myself but dont know wat to get, was debating the fast road clutch from courtenay but hear a standard one is just as good without the cost so happy for a standard again if this is false correct me,

Not sure if the flywheel will need doing and if it does what to get? and another slave cylinder do i need that too? and any other bits i need.

If anyone can tell me where best to go to get all this happy to stick standard and get this fitted i would be so apreciative.

I went for the Courtenay uprated clutch and lightened flywheel. Its a great setup but you are quite correct in the fact that the OE clutch is more than ample as it is. Your standard flywheel may need resurfacing to be on the safe side and I would advise that you definately fit a new slave cylinder.

the fly wheel will have to be taken out for that to happen i assume, that costly too? and do most garages do that or will i have to go somewhere special, and any idea where i can get a OE clutch from? cheers johnny sorry with all the Qs

they do service checks every 1000, 3000, 6000 miles

think u get 12000 mile warranty with it also

fantastic exactly what i was after mate, did u not need your fly wheel doing aswell? and what was the price with it all fitted and done? Did get a clutch done last year on my old car but the cow boys disturbed crank shaft oil seal which cost me another clutch and new engine 🙁 so assume these guys are sound?

yeh they are sound

if you use em tell em u know michael who supplied the gaffer with a cable box and i recommended u offer here 🙂

they wont offer a warranty with the crank seal though if they replace it

i couldn't believe how quickly they did it and in such a small area to manoeuvre, u talking about 2 - 3 inches of space to work in

would you recomend getting the oil seal done aswell and the fly wheel skimmed or just go for the slave and clutch?

Also how long did it take were u waiting? assume it would take a good few hours

i left it with them as i didnt want em to rush it

i had my oil seal replaced as it was leaking

my flywheel looked fine when it was taken off m8, my clutch looked like it was close to being on its last legs

guess ill have to have mine looked at when there doing it, but thanks micheal appreciate the help and advice, ill prob book my car in there within the next month or so, 🙂

I see that you're in Wiltshire. You may be better booking into Gloucester Road Gearboxes in Bristol. If you call them, ask to speak to Jason West and tell him that John with the SC Vectra recommended you call. He was my best man and we've known each other for 25 years. They'll do the resurface as part of the fitting as they have the equipment there if it needs doing.

living in birmingham, but yeh homes in wiltshire, got no issues going back home to get it done, what kinda prices likely to be bud?

They are VERY good for price but you would really need to give them a call. I've never had anyone complain to me yet about their prices. They even offer a free collection from the Wiltshire area looking at the website.

I doubt the flywheel would need machining TBH we have had loads of clutches down to the rivets and the flywheel surface is still fine??

The machine at Gloucester Road is like a large rotary surface grinder. Resurfacing helps the new clutch bed in on a nice flat surface.
