Engine Advice - Cost

Guys i have found 3 engines to replace my buggered one in my coupe.

first one is as follows
- £765 delivered, 80k, complete from a coupe

second one
- £1060 delivered, 48k, no gear box, alternator or starter motor. from a 2.2 SRI hatch.

Both come with 3 month guarantees.

third choice
- £1250 delivered, Recon with no ancillaries, 12 month warranty.

I'm not sure which one to for!

The cost difference is the main stumbling block for me!

The higher mileage engine is nearly 3 years older than the other so i'm wary of wear and tear on the head etc.

Any advice would be appreciated!

have one or two had new chains if not add the price on top and then work it out then choice 2 and 3 are about the same price???

£1250 reconditioned sounds like a decent price to me. Where is that from? There is an ad on ebay for a place in Gloucester who will collect your car, supply and fit engine, then deliver car back for £1350 as another possible option.

ok looking like i'll go for the recon.

I had a new coil pack and chain kit put on my car 50 miles ago!!!!

recon was price without VAT!!!! too expensive for me now, going for the 48k option, i've got a brand new chain kit to put on as well.

i looked into the recon market when i needed an engine for my 2.2 astra only 3 months ago, read the small print as they dont mention when selling you an engine that a condition of any warranty means taking it back to THEM for a very costly 5k service, then another @ 10k, this adds maybe another £400/500 to the final costs!

yeh, noticed that too! 12 month warranty only valid after 30 day/ 1000 miles service by supplier (regardless of who fits it), then 3 month / 3000 miles then 6 month / 6000 miles!!

More services than the car would get in 3 years!! only does 4 k a year now!!!!

I have got a mate fitting my engine with my assistance in passing spanners and brews! he's rebuilt / fitted a fair few other engines before, but just wondering if there is anything i should now that is gonna either cost me more money or take extra time when doing this.

I am putting my timing chain and coil pack on the new(er) lump. Are there gaskets and bits i'll need that i can get ordered, while were waiting for the engine to arrive?

you wanna find out how much they charging for service

tis like buying a new car offering extended warranties, what they dont tell you is that u have to have the car serviced by them every year and it is treble what any local garage would charge thus covering any costs incurred under warranty
