Throttle body & ICV location/Removal

Hi all,

Recently my Vectra died on me.
When I start it , it stays idle for 3-5 secs then cuts out. When I accel the revs don't move.
So it does not drive.. The TC & Engine emissions light is on (Or what i believe to be that light, the non Spanner engine looking one?)

The garage informed me that I need a new Throttle body and ECU = £1200

So I am going to clean out the Throttle body & IVC as described in previous posts to see if I have some success there first

I attempted to remove the throttle body today which I have done (I think)
It seems to be very different looking from previous posts photo's.
eg there is no fuel going in to the Throttle body?

ALso I could not locate the ICV..

Can anyone show me the way?

Oh! and whilst I was doing this it started snowing and my fingers froze

no idle control valve as it is integrated into the the throttle body

I would start with air leaks around the inlet manifold and throttle body

then buy yourself a cheap code reader 🙂

the fuel goes into the head above the inlet manifold [ fuel rail]

Ah ok.. That clears some things up then 🙂

Would it be ok to submerge the throttle body in water etc... to clean?
Since other things are integrated perhaps thats not the best idea?

Will check for air leaks now 🙂

Do not clean the throttle body in water, Get some carb cleaner on the job.

if the throttle is working then it's either the throttle body, throttle pedal or the plugs connecting them to the loom

DO NOT SUBMERGE THROTTLE BODY IN ANYTHING! PERIOD!

The throttle body contains electronic equipment. As Simon has mentioned above, spray the butterfly valve with carb cleaner, and work in with a small brush. Repeat until clean.

Managed to remove and clean the throttle body which now looks like new now.
Tonight I will remove the battery and charge it as it's been sitting for weeks.
Tomorrow I will re-fit the TB and hopefully this will resolve me non starting/press accelerator then stalling issue.

If not I have searched the forums and have come across the following other potential issues:-
Air leaks to the TB
Metal pipe going to manifold (Below TB) - Check for airleaks

Anyone have any other ideas?

Actual inlet manifold but normally only happens if it has been removed and then put on without the mateing surface not been cleaned.

A mate of mine had a similar issue when one of the injector o rings had perished.

i would have thought that if you had an air leak your idle would be high and you would probably hear some sort of obscene whistling in your engine bay.

Hi,
OK I have cleaned the TB it it looks like new..
Have charge the bat over night (So will have reset ECU when re-connected) and connected the TB back on.

Car starts and once reved it cuts out after 10 secs. Or if left for say 10 secs it cuts out itself.
Interestingly if I pump the accelerator slowly the revs slowly go up then after 10 secs it cuts out.

Any other thoughts anyone?

I have checked all connections and they seem fine (Although I am not a mechanic so not entirely sure what things are lol)

Perhaps Timing chain loose as someone mentioned....?

Now the TC and Light next to it remain on (I presume the light to the right of the TC light is the EML?)
I removed fuse 35 and still the TC light is on.

If I floor the accel when starting the revs do fire right up...
