Radio cutting off in 2.2 SRI Vectra C

Hi all, been reading the forums for the past couple of weeks now and just signed up recently 🙂

I've had a Vectra C 2.2 SRI for two years now and I've recently installed an aftermarket Kenwood radio (the factory one died).

When the engine is running, the radio powers up fine with no problem, but if the radio is on aux. power or ignition, it turns on and keeps flicking on and off for about 30 seconds before it completely dies. I've had to take a live from the cigarette lighter which only comes on when the ignition is on and not aux. power.

The unit has been back to Halfords and they cannot see anything wrong with it, the chap advised me it was something to do with a different wiring loom on this car.

Anyone else had the same problem or know of a solution?

When I fitted an after market HU to the Vectra C, I ended up getting a load of connectors to make sure everything was just plug and play.

Have a look at my garage as I listed all the bits I bought and fitted:

Related to what you bought, just looking on Car Audio Direct site and found the following:

However the Connects 2 CAN-Bus adapter says it supports Vectras from 2004 onwards. You reckon this would be OK for my 03 Vectra? The display looks same as yours (fine print instead of the chunky oldstyle print you get in the older Vectra B style). Also the radio reception on FM and AM seems to work fine without the aerial amplifier so I assume it's ok to skip this?

Does your setting wheel have the little push buttons, and not the jog wheel type?

Its the Can mate, the HU is fine. I had the same problem when I fitted a Parrot phone kit to my half Can (buttons on wheel) Vec C SRi. I took power from Cigi lighter for ignition + and was able to use HU loom for constant + The electrics are different on the C, you no longer get a constant + and an ignition +, you tend to get a constant and signal pulse, this is where your getting your power fluctuations from. This is my very basic grasp of how the Can system works.

The Connects 2 CAN-Bus steering control adaptor says it provides switched live, illumination, speed pulse and reverse wires. When I fitted a HU into my brothers 59 reg Corsa D, we used a fitting kit from Halfords, which didn't provide switched live, and we had to take the live from the cig lighter, where as I used the Connects 2, and have had no problems what so ever in my 05 Vectra C and 06 Astra H.

VX do there own kit, proper colour matched fascia and wiring adapter, is that the Connects 2? With mine being a Half Can all I need to do is cut the 3rd ISO block off and that just leaves me with the standard ISO double block. Fitted my Parrot kit this way with no need for for an extra lead.

To be doubly sure it is Charcoal Metallic, look on the label on the original radio installation kits you pulled out and it should say "MetallicCC" that's the Vx code for Charcoal Metallic, mine was the same.
