SMD Conversion

Many thanks to Adam (stampede) for sorting the SMD conversion today on the car. Given the temperature didn't go above 0degC, it was hard work in the cold.

The finished product is absolutely brilliant, and I'm over the moon with the end result.

First of all, the car was stripped of all the bits

Yep, that's one of the hardest things, actually taking all the stuff apart, and getting it all back together again.

I was there for just before 9am, got a coffee, and made a start. I removed the stereo (as I fitted it, and knew where all the wires were running). As I was doing that, he replaced the SMD's in the MP30 headunit, as he did a second board ready for it, so was just a straight swap.

I left just before 2pm, so just under 5 hours all in.

Hey Matt,

Im new to the forum and Im really interested in changing my horrid orange colour on my VXR.s dash to the blue like you have done there. Is there anyway of doing this without taking everything out like that. If not how do I go about getting this done as to be honest I havent got a clue myself on how to do it lol.

Hi Johnny,

Unfortunately, the only way to replace them is as shown in the pictures above. The MK5 Astra uses all SMD's for the interior lighting, so needs to be fully stripped and unsoldered, resoldered back in. Adam who did mine charges £200 to do all the interior, which for the amout of work, is a very good price.

Ok no dramas, who is Adam and do you think he would do this for me? £200 sounds fair enough, I take it that covers all the cost of materials and things he needs to do the job.

Yeah, Adam is called Stampede over on AstraOwnersNetwork, and he does these conversions pretty much day in day out now, and the cost included everything. I just turned up at this house, and he did everything.

He also travels some times to do the work, but this is normally when there are a few people in the same area wanting a conversion doing.
