VAT increase

Went to get some petrol last night from the local Shell garage, and put £23 to fill it back to the top. This was at 19:10 after finishing work.

I always track my fuel in the Astra on Fuelly, so put the details in just after I filled up, and based on me putting 19.51 litre in @ 115.9p as shown on the pump, it should have only cost me £22.61??

When I got home, worked out it, and the cheeky bastards had already put the 17.5% VAT on the fuel yesterday! So despite it saying 115.9p on the pump, it was 117.9p.

Surely that is illegal to change the VAT early?

That's the thing, it would cost me more in petrol to go and complain than I lost with the different in VAT rates.

aye a few garages around here were putting VAt back on their prices last night

Yet another example of the fuel companys doing there best to f**k us! And there aint much we can do about it.

For my sanity I just dont even bother looking anymore :crazy:

i think we are paying something like 10p extra a litre since it peaking summer 08

i remember when it was 45p a litre when i first started driving and oil per barrel was around 30$

oil sits at under $80 a barrel but we are paying over 1.10p a litre

your best off googling some info such as timelines and so fourth and you will see prices comparisions based on oil prices and Taxation

oil has not increased that significantly the last 10 years, but tax has

it doesnt help our economy or strength of the pound being worthless

Good point mike i forgot about the 60 odd percent fuel duty tax altho there all lining there greedy pockets with it :x

well oil peaked at $147 a barrel in 2008 and we paid 120p a litre

presently oil is $79 a barrel and we are on average 8p away from that high

in the space of 12 months they have put on average a 16p hike on a gallon of petrol

this government are a bunch of scamming bandit boys who need to be removed from power

in april we got another budget hike on petrol and most likely september as well

Labour will be removed from power in the summer but I think this country is beyond repair now
