Buying A Vectra Signum

Hi Folks
I was considering buying a 2003 Vectra Signum 2.2 Elegance Auto but after reading some of the posts I'm not sure it is a good idea :think: The car has done 65k and is from a trade dealer.
Over the last 6 years I have had two Modeo Ghia X Packs (a lorry bent the first one?) and I like the toys 😃 With the Signum I like the idea of the Climate Control, the Audio system, Cruise Control and what looks to be a large boot with a large opening tailgate cheers.. My Mondeo is a saloon and not convenient for loading the boot :thumbdown:
So, can enough people convince me I should buy the Signum and if I do go for it what should I look and listen for and what questions should I ask the dealer :?:

Welcome to the site.

The Signum is a very well equipped car, for not a lot of money. My parents have had a couple of them, and they have been really good. The only issue with them is they are a 4 seater, and not 5 like the Vectra.

One I don't have a picture of was a 2.2 Elegence, which even had the fridge in the rear.

What is putting you off getting the 2.2?

the signum has the later spec chain fitted so as long as the oil is changed every 10k it should be fine :thumbup:

ps: both chains should be replaced every 100,000 miles

The Signum is another good car from vauxhall, as already mentioned the chain should be good for at least 100,000 miles

Thanks for the information folks.
My concerns are as a result of reading some of the posts in other parts of Z22SE where people were talking of camchains breaking and problems with the engine coolant getting into the auto transmission fluid due to a leak in the radiators notsure.gif
It does look a very nice car. I like the climate control, cruise control and the CD multichanger cheers.. I'm not too bothered about it not being a full five seater. My main criteria for choosing a car these days is being able to move the seat and steering wheel to get comfortable, I am disabled (and the aches don't get better as I get older 🙁 ) and for the rear seats to fold down to give a flat boot floor able to fit a clock six feet long. I repair clocks and occasionally have to collect a Grandmother clock which is about six feet tall :thumbup:
If there is not a problem with the camchains or the radiators (or anything else :?: ) then the Signum I have found is well in the frame.

The bootspace with the rear seats folder flat is ace, we fit a king size matress folded in half in the back of the silver one in the pictures.

The Signum is a fantastic car mate, the only problem in the Siggy is fitted with the Direct Injected fuel system on the 2.2 and this is proving a major problem. The HP pumps keep failing and its a costly part to replace, so much so it was on Watchdog last year. It also comes with a variable inlet manifold which also fails but not as often. the peach of the range is the 2.0T, with running costs on par with the 2.2, 20bhp more to play with and reliability record that everyone wishes for you cant go wrong. All siggys came with the 2.2 direct but earlier Vec C's came with the none direct.

i agree go for the z20net version..... they tune up pretty good apparently.

The Signum I found was the 2.2 Elegance with Direct Injection. It's characteristics suited my needs so I have bought it. Now wait and see how I get on with it.

With regard to tuning - it's not something I will be doing with the Signum. I will save the lunatic bit to my trike project. A 2.9L V6 Ford Granada Cosworth based job. I've been trying to get it on the road for a few years - hopefully this year will be the one.
