Update on the Saab Aero cams.
Finally got 1,000 miles on the new engine and went over to Courtenay's for a general health check and a dyno session to make sure there was nothing nasty going on with the fuelling.
The Saab B207R "Aero" cams have made no difference whatsoever to power numbers or delivery. The new dyno chart looks like a clone of the last chart I had done on the old engine. Jon reckoned the charts could easily be mistaken for a back to back power run, not something separated by 8 months and a new engine with improved cylinder head and different cams. In fact, it looks like the Saab cams actually peak and flatten off at the very top end, a little sooner than the stock NA cams. What they have done is increased the pressure in the supercharger by roughly 1psi, which would point to them not opening the valves early enough/high enough/long enough (or a combination of those). Not sure whether things could be improved with some Verniers but as it stands, it's not worth doing on an SC'd engine. 🙁
May have to revert back to the NA cams now.
